A Sheriff’s deputy stopped Medford resident Paul Cardenas, 19, shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, the Sheriff said, when he was caught driving in an “excessive speed,” in a posted 55 mph zone on the highway in Southampton.

During the stop, it is alleged that Cardenas was in possession of multiple cartridges of concentrated cannabis in his truck. He was also in possession of a sealed bag of cocaine in the center console of his vehicle.

Cardenas was arrested and charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters Bureau in Riverhead. He has since been released and is scheduled to return to court at a later date to respond to the charges.
